NEC takes aim at server and storage market

Japanese vendor plans to become a top-three player in EMEA server and storage market by 2015

Written by Kayleigh Bateman

NEC Computers has issued a war cry in the server and storage arena, declaring plans to become a top-three player in the space by 2015.

The Japanese vendor revealed it was winding down all PC market activity outside of Japan back in March.

NEC stressed that it has refocused its products and solutions on infrastructure, servers, storage and is following a desktop development strategy around virtualisation technology.

In recent months NEC has launched the modular A1160 server for transactional systems, the Eco Center solution to reduce energy consumption and increase datacentre performance and the all-in-one Flexpower infrastructure solution, which includes servers, storage and network on a single chassis.

The vendor has also revealed plans to develop its network of value-added distributors and focus on vertical market sectors such as banking, healthcare and airports.

To support its IT strategy for EMEA, Tong Chhor will be responsible for creating a flexible organisation which will combine the ‘dynamism of young managers and the effectiveness of experienced managers’.
