IT resellers feature heavily in the Sunday Times’ latest list of high-growth UK technology firms.

Unveiled yesterday, The Sunday Times 2009 Tech Track 100 league table ranks privately owned technology, telecoms and digital media firms by sales growth over their three most recent annual accounts.

Resellers AVM, Intrinsic Technology and Probrand are no strangers to Tech Track having all featured last year. All rose up the rankings in 2009, with Birmingham-based public sector specialist Probrand one of only seven firms in the list reporting sales of more than £50m in its most recent accounts.

And a number of IT resellers managed to break into the rankings for the first time.

Hosting, storage and security reseller ControlCircle, which placed 36, was among 45 new entrants after growing sales from £1.3m to £6.1m.

Chesterfield-based NetApp, EMC and Hitachi partner B2net also featured for the first time after swelling revenues from £11.5m to £38m.

First-timers Onyx Group and Orange Information Systems placed 81 and 86 respectively. Both firms registered sales of between £9m and £10m in their last financial years.

Tech Track 100 firms hit average sales growth of 69 per cent in their last three years of accounts. More than four out of five (81 per cent) were in profit in their latest year.

Of the firms, 49 of them were based in London and 19 in the South East.

By sector, 18 of the firms are in the internet and network services market, 16 are in telecoms services and 15 in the digital media & entertainment sector. Management software (9), outsourced computer services (9), financial software (7), e-business software (6) and electronics and microchips (6) were also common sectors.

To warrant inclusion, firms must have had annualised sales of at least £250,000 in the base year and at least £5m in the final year.
