Check Point’s Lowe given European role

Nick Lowe says he will be able to influence channel policy at a higher level in his new post as Western Europe head

Written by Doug Woodburn

Check Point’s Nick Lowe has vowed to fight the UK channel’s corner at a higher level after being promoted to a European role.

In his new post as head of Western Europe, Lowe will have responsibility for the UK & Ireland, the Nordics and Benelux. The security software vendor is also in the process of recruiting a UK country manager.

Talking to CRN, Lowe – who previously looked after the UK, Ireland and South Africa - confirmed his promotion was announced internally two days ago.

“The UK and Ireland have been very successful with a number of business initiatives, and there was a desire to replicate that in other geographies,” he said.

“We have seen in excess of £10m incremental business through the [account mapping model] we rolled out last year and my job is to do that in Benelux and Nordics.”

Although Lowe’s focus will now be divided between three sizeable territories, he claimed UK partners would welcome his promotion.

“Given that I am a strong advocate of partners I think it is good news for them," he said. "I will have influence at a higher level.”

Lowe will continue to report into vice president EMEA, Bruno Darmon. A UK country manager is now being sought, with an external appointment likely, Lowe added.

Dave Ellis, e-security director at Check Point distributor Computerlinks, said: “Nick’s promotion does not surprise me as he has been forward thinking and has led the company in a number of new initiatives.”
