Crackdown: Vendor audits are on the rise, claims BDNA

BDNA taps into software audit deluge

US asset discovery vendor seeks VARs as it arrives in UK with antitode for software licensing audits

Asset discovery vendor BDNA is banking on the growing spectre of vendor audits to fuel reseller interest as it launches in the UK.

The firm, which counts BMC, HP and CA among its competitors, wants the UK to become its second market behind its native US after unveiling a local presence.

Country manager Paul Winters said BDNA’s IT Genome would allow partners to offer a “quick fix” to end users worried about vendor audits, which he claimed are continuing to rise.

“Resellers can offer a full service to give companies a proper understanding of what they need when vendor comes knocking,” he said.

Asset management specialists Kodit and ITAMS are on board as BDNA’s first two UK partners but Winters said he wanted 8-10 allies by January 2011.

“We are looking for very niche expertise in areas we know we can add real value,” he explained. “So we need people with asset management expertise, people who can add expertise to virtualisation or people looking at green IT.”

Winters said BDNA’s sweet spot is with firms with over 2,000 PCs and picked out BMC as his main rival. “The biggest [differentiator] we have is we are agentless – we have very quick ROI model,” he added.
