Software development company JuxtaComm Technologies has filed a legal case against a range of high profile companies, including IBM and Microsoft, for alleged breaches of a data-integration patent.

Juxtacomm claims that the firms named in the suit have infringed its patent covering a 'system for transforming and exchanging data between distributed heterogeneous computer systems'.

Canada-based JuxtaComm filed the action in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on 17 August.

The case concerns US Patent 6,195,662 B1, which JuxtaComm originally applied for on 27 June 1997 and was granted on 27 February 2001.

The legal filing names a number of high profile firms including: Ascential Software Corporation; Business Objects SA; Business Objects America; CA; Cognos; DataMirror; Fiorano Software; Hummingbird; IBM; Informatica; Information Builders; Intersystems; iWay Software; MetaStorm; Microsoft; Open Text Corporation; Software AG; Sybase; and WebMethods.
