Motorola has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Aruba Networks, accusing the firm of infringing of its patents related to wireless local area network (Lan) communication technologies.

The legal action was filed on 27 August in the US District Court for the District of Delaware through Motorola's subsidiary companies Symbol Technologies and Wireless Valley Communications.

"Two of the patents in this lawsuit relate to wireless Lan switching architecture technology," Motorola stated.

"Wireless Valley introduced the breakthrough concept of using a predictive design approach, a 3D representation of an environment, and site-specific information in the design, implementation and management of wireless networks in and around buildings."

The firm added that two of the patents in the lawsuit relate to wireless Lan site planning and radio frequency management.

The Motorola subsidiaries are seeking a permanent injunction against Aruba's use of the patented technologies, and monetary damages for infringing use.
