Toshiba's strategy of replacing the Satellite 200 notebook with the
Satellite 300 proved successful as its market share reached more than 50
 per cent in July.
There is fierce competition for the top three positions in the desktop
market. Compaq and IBM are gaining market share at the expense of Hewlett
Packard, which has dropped five per cent since February. By the end of
July, Compaq leads this sector, leaving Hewlett Packard and IBM to fight
 for second position.
