A real Dogg's dinner

Incongruous celebrity/vendor competition number 1: I was deeply amused, somewhat discombobulated and more than a little bilious to find out this week that Symantec has (sort of) teamed up with Snoop Dogg to promote its Norton internet security product.

The clearly hard-up rapper has lent his likeness to the security playa's Hack is Wack (hold on, it gets worse) competition. Entrants are to submit up to two minutes of rhymes on the subject of cybercrime. The winner will receive two tickets to see "Snoop Dog" in concert, as well as the "opportunity to meet with Snoop's management or agent".

Dave Jr is quite the rap aficionado and is gutted this contest is only open to US residents. In fact, such is the boy's love for G-funk, it's long been his life's ambition to meet a misspelled rapper's manager. And it doesn't end there! He could also have won "a super cool Toshiba laptop". Drat.

"Have fun fo'shizzle!," adds the competition website, convincingly.

This reminds me of something similar I wanted to organise with Dodgi. As a Barking and Dagenham native and well-known activist, I was surprised Billy Bragg didn't want to join my one-man fight against overpriced voice over IP routers. I guess some people are all mouth and trousers.
