Mid-life crises inspire strange behaviour. So hats off to the top brass at system builder Stone Group for channelling their energies into something altruistic.

Chief exec James Bird and recycling boss Andy Howell are taking part in the Enduro Africa motorcycle challenge, an eight-day trek through treacherous terrain to raise money for the continent's poorest people.

Howell revealed he hasn't ridden off-road for 15 years, adding: "I guess as part of most men's mid-life crisis they feel an urge to challenge themselves."
