Bent out of shape
Dehumanising or not, social networking does breed a special kind of idiocy, ably demonstrated by the ill-judged remarks of two sports stars recently.
Australian opening batsman Phil Hughes used Twitter to reveal his exclusion from the team for the third Ashes test more than two hours before the official line-ups were announced. He then faced a ticking off from Aussie cricket chiefs.
Later that day footballer Darren Bent made a boo-boo when he posted a sweary tweet lambasting Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. Frustrated by delays in his £15m move to Sunderland, Bent told Levy to stop shilly-shallying (or words to that effect).
Prior to the deal going ahead, Spurs hit their foolish frontman with a £120k fine. Talk about an own goal.
