That damn cloud

Sitting at the Ingram Micro Showcase event yesterday it struck me how many holes the cloud actually has - the biggest one being connectivity.

I tried logging onto the internet (as you do) and was met with constant technical problems as my computer kept crashing and chucking me off the internet. So basically I couldn't get a thing done.

If I struggled to get on the internet to simply check my emails, how will a company cope if it has backed up all its data to the cloud and needs to get it back after a disaster?

Supplier to customer: "Ooh, sorry about the delay, but we are experiencing connection problems, but we should have everything up and running in the next eight hours. It wasn't anything urgent was it?"

Talking of the cloud, as it seems I talk about nothing else at the moment, I have noticed an increasingly hostility from the channel towards certain vendors, who feel these vendors are basically taking control of their partners' clients by stealth with their cloud strategy. There are certainly a lot of partners that are happy to vocalise their fears.

To the vendors in question - this is a dangerous strategy and one that will eventually bite them on the behind if they are not careful.
