Slowly does it
Those readers that know me will recall that I am a very keen vegetable gardener in my spare time - there is nothing like growing your own (and eating it!).
Sadly I have learned a valuable lesson over the weekend that growing vegetables is not a job to be rushed.
I have patiently sowed seeds since March, watered, repotted and cultivated them - with my courgettes, squashes and pumpkins being my pride and joy.
However I got carried away by a sunny day yesterday and made the fateful decision to plant my growing plants out in their alloted places. Without checking the weather forecast.
Thanks to the weather for giving us a heavy frost last night.
I was greeted with the sight of lots of limp looking, frozen solid plants this morning when I woke in a cold sweat at 4am and rushed down to the bottom of the garden.
I frantically rescued them all and put them back in the greenhouse (where they should have stayed for at least two more weeks) and I am hoping some will recover. But I am holding out little hope.
I am not looking forward to going home and finding the carnage that awaits.
At least I have plenty more seeds. Time to start again.
Just like business, growing successfully cannot be rushed. The art of patience truly is a virtue. Lesson learned.
