Shame on you Currys
A conversation I was having with a good contact of mine reminded me of an incident over Christmas when I wasted two hours of my time trying to buy a DVD recorder from said retailer.
How could something so simple possibly go wrong I hear you ask.
Well, basically the cheeky staff took it upon themselves to charge me for a monthly insurance direct debit that I didn't ask for or indeed want. It was only when they asked me to sign the direct debit form that I realised what they were doing.
Conveniently their systems then went down when I demanded that they cancel the policy immediately and I spent the next two hours waiting becuase I refused to leave until they had sorted it out.
Another coincidence was that I couldn't tell them to stuff their DVD where the sun don't shine because the problem was with the direct debit rather than the purchase.
The staff were generally unhelpful and made me feel like I was causing them an inconvenience, seeming surprised when I refused their kind suggestion of phoning their premium 'support' line myself to sort out their mess.
In times of hardship for retailers, this is not the kind of reputation a company needs and I for one will never be setting foot in one again.
Incidentally this post is still relevant becuase I am STILL waiting for written confirmation that the direct debit has indeed been cancelled.
