Social Networking at work - Ban or Embrace?

Social networking at work is becoming a growing issue for most firms - and research out today by Demos, and reported by the BBC claims that it should be embraced.

One firm that is looking to promote debate about social networking is Vodafone. There are some interesting views and discussions going on there.

It is a difficult situation because there are always going to be those that take it to the nth degree and abuse the freedom of social networking, but there is absolutely no denying there is a huge benefit to the technology as well.

Firms looking to attract the younger generation are going to have to get behind social networking in some form or another, and also business networking sites such as LinkedIn are invaluable at finding old contacts and some new ones.

The problem is striking that balance between stopping the timewasters and allowing those that will use the technology for the good of the business to actually carry on.

One thing is for sure, a blanket ban on social networking is never going to work.
