A truly amazing survey finds people are wont to lose concentration in the middle of...stuff...or something
I was beyond delighted to stumble across a deeply pioneering piece of research this week from no less an authority than the institute that educated the likes of Steve Ballmer, Mark Zuckerberg, Matt Damon, George W. Bush and the Unabomber.
The good folk at Harvard University got 2,220 people to download an iPhone app. They were then quizzed randomly at all hours of the day and night about what they were thinking and feeling.
And, in a revelation sure to shock anyone who's ever undertaken a job, exercise, endeavour, task, project or other such activity, it seems people's minds wander from what they're doing 46.9 per cent of the time. Even with demanding chores, people drift off more than 30 per cent of the time.
Maybe I'm marking myself out as Johnny Inattentive here, but unless I'm currently engaged in sinking a few, watching football or getting hot under the collar with Fiona Bruce, there's a better-than-even chance I'm thinking about something else.
