Bah humbug

Still looking for that Christmas cheer

Having worked in this industry for a decade I was around (just) to witness the end of the golden era.

Christmas was a time when IT journalists were inundated with gifts and invites to really exciting Christmas parties and we were sent festive games by the bucketload. I wasn't quite around for the times when laptops were handed out like sweets, but I certainly got a brief taste of the good times.

The good mood was infectious and everyone went round with a smile on their face.

However every year for the past few years this has tailed off until it is almost non existent. I know this is reflective of the general economy as a whole, but it doesn't mean I like it!

Most of the invites we receive have the ulterior motive of getting journalists to speak to execs under the pretence of a Christmas meal and any goodwill is very hard to find.

Where has the Christmas spirit gone? We need to find it once more.

If anyone is having any Christmas parties with a difference, or doing something whacky or fun - please do send me your pictures and I will blog it!! Failing that some Christmas party gossip will do.

Someone, somewhere must be feeling festive.

Please that lone person amid all the gloom - get in touch!
