Apple guns for Samsung
It is smartphone wars for real as Apple sues Samsung
Apple is set to sue rival Samsung Electronics for allegedly copying the design of its iPad and iPhone, the BBC has reported.
The vendor claims Samsung's Galaxy range 'slavisly' copies the iPhone and iPad, particularly with its screen icons.
But Samsung is hitting back and will contest the allegations.
It will be interesting to see how this battle pans out.
Now as I have said before, and because this is a blog it is my opinion (which I'm entitled to)- Apple's products are fantastic. I am an iPhone owner and love the product completely.
But competition is needed to stop the utter arrogance that companies at the top of their game seem to adopt. Consumer choice is also needed and so far Samsung and HTC are doing a good job at competing.
Only when a vendor is challenged will it ultimately benefit the consumer as price wars begin.
And as an iPhone owner, who thinks the monthly charges are extremely inflexible, this can only be a good thing.
Now I'm sure I'll probably get it in the neck from Apple for daring to make such a claim, and also for past allegations I have made about its treatment of channel partners, but such is life.
And I stand by my claims.
I'm still waiting for my interview opportunity with Apple a year on, where I have given the vendor a chance to set the record straight about its channel strategy. However I have been informed it doesn't really speak to the trade press.
I'll just keep waiting and hoping that one day it will change its mind.
