What a week
So much for the silly season
Honestly, I take a week off work and the world goes mad.
With the US looking increasingly vulnerable economically (how did that happen) and the UK growing a measely 0.2 per cent in the second quarter of the year - things are not looking that positive whichever way you turn.
Then of course there is the ongoing problems of Greece, Spain and Italy teetering on the brink of a financial abyss.
Add to that the awful catastrophe in Somalia, the dreadful events in Norway and the demise of a promising young musician - it seems there is no shortage of negative news around at the moment.
But returning closer to home - I have mixed feelings about the recent ONS figures on the UK economy.
The fact that we have any growth at all, considering what our neighbours and cousins across the pond are going through - is surely something to cling on to?
But the fact that everything has slipped again compared with Q1 - and this has been blamed on the Royal Wedding and the extra bank holiday along with the Japanese earthquake/tsunami - is not such good news.
As someone said to me recently - it is just a matter of keeping our heads down and making the best of a difficult situation.
Will the good times ever return?
