Open source, open government?

A BBC report reveals the government has not stuck to a pledge.....

Once I had actually got over the shock of seeing that the coalition government hasn't stuck to a pledge - the findings of the BBC investigation were quite interesting.

Earlier this year the government promised to embrace open source software a little more as it looks to shrink its IT spend.

But after the BBC filed a Freedom of Information request as part of its investigation into government IT spend, it revealed that the lion's share of the money is still going on proprietary software.

This is obviously good news for the software developers concerned which are coining it in, but not such good news for open source software which is often seen as the underdog.

We have launched a poll on this very point - it would be good to know what you think.
