UK firms are anti-social

A report claims that a nearly a third of UK firms are blocking social networking sites due to security fears

OK, aside from the fact that the research is from Clearswift - which naturally does have an agenda (please buy our security software!) - if this is the case - it is quite a scary statistic.

An article in the FT today reveals that the number of UK firms blocking access to social media increased by a fifth last year, fuelled by panic over high profile data leaks from well known businesses.

I think this is a real shame if it is the case because from our experience social media really enhances a business, enabling communication with your customers - in our case our readership - and access to many minds and opinions at the click of a button.

It is also great for contact building and even having some business-based fun.

Just because some rogue employees are out there - and that will be the case no matter how stringent your security - it doesn't mean that everyone else should suffer.

If used properly, social media can really enhance a business and show employees that their employer trusts them.

What is wrong with that?
