The joy of sports
With Olympic fever well and truly alive, CRN got down to some competitive sport of our own
Sport really is a powerful thing.
I'd forgotten what fun it was playing in a team game until yesterday, when the Incisive Media technology division (of which CRN is a part) spent the afternoon at Regent's Park playing softball. All in the name of team-building you understand.
Having been a keen team sportswoman (rounders, netball, tennis and hockey) at school and to some extent at university (first year anyway), I hadn't played on a team since those days and it was great fun.
Since then I've opted for the more lonely pasttimes of running the odd marathon/half marathon/10K and the odd bike ride (London to Brighton). But that is very much a lonely affair and you are on your own.
Being a cynical journalist I had frowned at the thought of enforced fun in a corporate environment, but actually found it very enjoyable indeed and would recommend more companies engage in team sports days.
You get talking to people you have passed many times in the corridors but never actually made eye contact with, and you spend some time in the fresh air.
I think the Olympics has reignited a desire to participate in sports activities around the country, and that is no bad thing.
I'm also desperate to learn how to play handball, so if you know of any teams either in Leicestershire/Northamptonshire or central London that are looking for extremely amateur players, then please do let me know.
