What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? Profit, interest in networking and security, love of new business opportunity generation and sales.
What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? Anti-spyware software.
What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Application traffic management solutions. It has been the most underrated technology for the past five years and will continue to be so for the next five.
Which technology would you most like to have invented? The application-layer firewall, surely the staple of every threat-aware institution.
Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? No.
If you could swap places with anyone in the industry, who would it be? Mark Templeton, chief executive of Citrix Systems. A master of application deployment, development and management.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Probably making the jump from working for a vendor earning very good money to a new business unit as part of an established outsource provider.
What is the biggest success of your career? There have been quite a few although I regard the failures just as important as the successes.
What piece of technology could you not live without? My laptop.
What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Don’t think it is an easy life, be prepared to work extremely hard to see the results and don’t be afraid to leave where you are if necessary.
