What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? Videoconferencing. For most users it adds very little above a traditional voice call.
What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Real-time collaboration.
Which technology would you most like to have invented? The ‘quick and dirty’ operating system used in IBM’s first PC.
Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? That I didn’t sell my Nortel shares in 2000.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Generally, it’s been bringing together different teams to work together on a common objective, data guys with voice guys, sales people with delivery people.
What is the biggest success of your career? Turning Damovo UK round from a significant loss to a steady double-digit operating profit.
What piece of technology could you not live without? My mobile phone/PDA.
What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Whatever your interest, get a good solid foundation. Work with good people early on and learn form them.
What is your favorite computer game? If the kids let me on I go for the James Bond games.
What would you like for Christmas if you could have anything? A never-ending list of customer prospects who had pressing needs and were not price sensitive.
