Global PC sales have soared 14 per cent in Q1, according to IDC. The top five vendors increased total market share from 45 per cent to 53 per cent. Compaq was the market leader, having increased its share from 12.8 per cent to 17.3 per cent. Compaq was followed by Dell (11.8 per cent), Gateway 2000 (8.2 per cent) and IBM and Packard Bell-NEC (equal on 7.9 per cent).
