Microsoft has taken minority stakes in two internet media companies, Audible and Thingworld.com. Microsoft and three other companies are investing a combined $11 million in Audible, a privately held Wayne, New Jersey company that was founded in 1995.
Compaq and Intel already own stakes in the firm, which resells more than 10,000 audio books from its Website.
