Former IBM distributor Metrologie International has begun massive discounting of its remaining RS/6000 stock in a bid to clear its warehouses of old kit.
The wholesaler is offering dealers discounts of between 40 per cent and 60 per cent on its RS/6000 parts.
Andrew Cloney, technical marketing director of IBM distributor Bytech Systems was surprised that Metrologie holds any Big Blue kit. 'I thought their stock was cleared in January and we bought a lot of it,' he said.
'Their stuff must be quite old because they had it in December and the new systems are selling better now. Since January there have been many changes to the systems. Many of Metrologie's customers have come to us but if they want to put this stuff in the channel it's up to them.' Examples of Metrologie's clearout include 2.2Gb Scsi drives for #890, serial subsystem adaptors for #899 and five 16Mb Simms for #599.
