Netscape's shares have surged following speculation that the internet software giant was poised to sign a deal with a leading media company.
According to US reports, companies in the frame included CBS, NBC, Disney and News Corp. Shares climbed 32 per cent following the speculation - one day's trading on 2 July saw Netscape's share surge 12.1 per cent.
The deal was seen as part of Netscape's plan to provide content for its Website, Netcenter.
