Japanese printer firm Star Micronics claims it has a winning plan for dealers by offering next-day on-site exchange warranties across its range of dot-matrix, thermal desktop and laser printers.
The scheme is part of Star's campaign which claims 'dot matrix is not dead', despite suffering from the 39 per cent decline in dot-matrix sales over the past three years. It is expanding its support team to handle extra calls, and said it will give dealers a chance to have hassle-free sales.
Annette Tarlton, Star marketing manager, said: 'Even though dot-matrix is an ancient technology there is no other workhorse that can do its job.
The warranty offer we are running should be very attractive to dealers as it is unique.' The company held six per cent of the UK printer market, in terms of unit sales last year. This was as much as Epson, according to market research firm Context. Star products are distributed by Midwich Thame and Northamber among others.
