Texas Instruments (TI) is trying to reinvent its image in the notebook market through a deal with SCH which targets the corporate market.
Neil Marshall, TI European channel marketing manager, said: 'We're delighted with the signing. TI has set its sights high, but we feel they are realistic expectations for a company of our pedigree to have.
'Our worldwide notebook business is worth $1 billion a year. Expanding our channel into the commercial market is fundamental to our success and continued growth.'
SCH chairman Peter Rigby said: 'TI has a long-standing reputation for producing powerful and innovative portable computing products. These products will be part of SCH's product strategy across all sectors of corporate computing.'
The manufacturer has said it wants to be the world's third largest notebook vendor, and for corporate sales to account for 35 per cent of all business by the end of 1997.
TI is the eighth largest notebook vendor in the UK, the sixth largest globally and the fifth largest in the US. In Italy, it is the top notebook vendor, with 18 per cent of the market.
