Fujitsu Siemens Computers has said it is increasing its focus on mobile computing to help it become Europe's leading computer company by 2003.
At its annual products showcase event in Germany last week, the company revealed that it is to concentrate on both mobile access products - such as laptops, mobile phones, personal digital assistants, smart cards - and on products and services to increase the reliability of servers and applications running on the devices.
At the event, senior executives also announced increased commitment to the channel. Paul Stodden, chief executive of the company, said: "We work with a large number of distributors, retailers and resellers and they are all important partners."
Ian Snadden, director for SME and channel sales, said that while rival companies have scaled down their channel efforts in favour of direct sales, Fujitsu Siemens was not only keeping faith with channel partners but increasing its commitment to them.
The company is creating more business development staff to work directly with UK resellers, and is running print and radio adverts.
"The call to action on all our adverts is directed at participating resellers," said Snadden.
He added that the UK arm of Fujitsu Siemens had not been harmed by the departure of a number of senior executives, including UK managing director David Teaque.
"The resignations came over a period of three months and were cases of the executives feeling that it was time to move on," said Snadden.
