Filtering vendor SurfControl has appointed equIP as its first UK distributor.
The deal, signed late last week, will see the distributor sell SurfControl?s Web Filter on the Blue Coat platform to its resellers.
Last year SurfControl revealed its intention to broaden out into distribution following the launch of its first channel-only hardware appliance.
Chris Flynn, senior vice-president EMEA at SurfControl, said: "Until now resellers have bought from us directly. We felt combining our software and the Blue Coat box would be better for both resellers and end-users."
Flynn would not rule out other distribution partnerships for its appliance range. "For general software it is easier to deal directly with resellers. We are not looking to put our software products through distributors, but there are initiatives that could involve distribution," he said.
Ian Morris, managing director of equIP, said: "Resellers have the choice between Websense's Smart Filter and SurfControl, and are starting to realise that SurfControl offers the best solution.
"It means they are able to buy the solution from one place rather than buying the box from us and the software from SurfControl."
Morris said the distributor will soon offer various price bundles.
