Info Products Europe has set up a global computer alliance with Japan?s Otsuka Shokai and US-based Entex Information Systems to supply IT equipment under the trade name 1-Desk.
The three companies have combined sales of $6.3 billion, making the group bigger than the Computacenter-led ICG alliance, Info Products claims.
The Dutch-owned firm is the largest wholly owned reseller in Europe, ahead of Computacenter and GE Capital with 1996 sales of $1.5 billion, according to PC Europa figures.
The reseller is tipped to become even bigger in the UK, emerging as the hot favourite to buy Simmons Magee.
Last month, Info Products UK was informed by its head office that it had hit operating profit targets and that funds would be released to make necessary acquisitions.
One industry source commented: ?Simmons Magee is desperate to be bought and the longer it drags on, the cheaper its price becomes.?
