Microsoft's NT operating system and Exchange software is not as scalable on all platforms as it ought to be, claimed a leading UK software consultancy last week.
Management Software managing director Henry Marriot said that in multiprocessor environments the software performed poorly. The company tested the system using a Tricord Power Frame server using from two to six processors.
'We concluded that NT and Exchange do not appear to scale properly on such platforms,' said Marriott.
A Microsoft representative said this was not totally surprising. She said that NT, from revisions 3.5x to 4, was not optimised for Tricord platforms. 'Bill Gates has a relentless policy of optimising NT for what he considers are important hardware platforms,' she said.
