Datatec has emerged as the UK?s first specialist Internet distributor, winning endorsements from two key Internet/intranet players ? US Robotics and Netscape.
The Surrey-based distributor has set up a five-division structure, three of them based on the component firms that have been merged together to form the organisation ? Data Guardian, Volante Distribution and Inform Training.
Datatec Systems will focus on large remote access and network systems; the products division will supply high-volume comms products, and Datatec Inform Training will sell its training products through resellers. Two divisions will focus on intranet solutions and support services for all the firm?s products.
The company will now sell the entire range of US Robotics? access products in the UK, from the Sportster and Courier modems up to the Total control hubs. Datatec group managing director John Chapman said: ?The addition of the US Robotics personal comms products will allow us to support resellers in addressing the expanding remote access market, from the workstation to the corporate Lan.?
The success of the intranet division will be built on the Netscape deal. ?Netscape is currently the industry?s leading Internet/intranet software vendor,? said intranet division MD Richard Jackson. ?It?s a natural choice for us, as it?s the standard platform for developing intranet solutions.?
