Anixter has signed up wireless software vendor BlueSky to bolster its line-up of enterprise wireless products.
The deal will see Anixter's resellers supplied with BlueSky's Pro Survey software tool, which will enable VARs to survey buildings for wireless connectivity.
"We already have a fairly decent wireless business and decided we needed to widen out our reseller base," said Ben Hennessey, mobility product manager at Anixter.
"One thing that was holding us back was that we had no way of enabling resellers to do site surveys for implementing wireless. We think this will help VARs get involved earlier in a deal by designing networks."
Hennessey added that site surveys were critical for wireless coverage, and for offering voice services over Wi-Fi.
Jess Thompson-Hughes, managing director of wireless integrator React Technologies, said: "Anixter is right, and it is going to be doing this on a large scale.
"There are already companies out there that specialise in site surveys, usually charging between £2,000 and £10,000."
