Three South Wales dealers could face up to three months in prison or a fine of up to #5,000 after allegedly falling foul of European electromagnetic safety rules.
David Holland, trading standards manager for Cardiff Trading Standards office, said that three out of the four dealers tested ? who cannot be named for legal reasons ? had failed to comply with the rules. Prosecution is pending against these dealerships and a trial is expected to be held within the next two months.
He said Trading Standards would toughen its stance towards non-compliance resellers.
Dai Davis, a lawyer specialising in advising clients on EMC marking ? the compliant standard ? said: ?Even if all the individual components in a PC are compliant, this doesn?t mean that the overall PC will comply.?
