Trade association CompTIA has announced its Cyber Ready retraining programme in the UK, following funding from the government's Cyber Skills Immediate Impact Fund (CSIIF).
The programme is one of seven chosen to be supported by the National Cyber Security Programme, which is designed to increase the number of people working in cybersecurity and addressing the skills gap that is leaving UK businesses open to attack.
CyberReady is a six month online programme designed for people who have commitments that do not allow them the time to upskill. It is open to those from a range of applicants, from parents and carers to graduates and those with prior IT experience.
Graham Hunter, VP of Certifications at CompTIA, said it is a "fantastic achievement" to be selected by the National Cyber Security Programme.
"Cyber Ready will provide candidates with the necessary training to deal with real-world cyber security incidents and give those interested in the sector the confidence to start a career.
"CompTIA is dedicated to providing industry-relevant and skills-based training to ensure the next generation of cybersecurity professionals are the best in breed and from an increasingly diverse group of individuals."
As part of the new initiative, 30 candidates will be selected by a panel to receive expert guidance and learning material with the aim of becoming competent within the Cyber Analyst role. It will be delivered online with attendance required at six Saturday workshops.
Margot James, minister for digital and the creative industries welcomed the announcement and emphasised the importance of boosting diversity in the sector.
"Untapped talent in cyber security can be found anywhere but unless we look for it everywhere, we risk missing out.
"The CSIIF is a great example of Government working closely with industry, community groups and charities to boost diversity in the workplace."
