Managing director, Probrand

Peter Robbins

Career so far I have been managing director for Probrand since 1992 and Icomm Technolgies since 2000. Along the way I have in addition created a data management company and software house namely Mercato Solutions.

Do you care about green IT? Very much so, we have taken the initiative to bring clarity to the green cloud. We conform to as many standards as possible, for example ISO 14000, and we have even invested in green data management developing www.destinationgreenit.com as a community, information channel and sphere for debate for IT users, hardware manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.

If you could be in a rock/pop band, which one would it be and who would you be? Electric Light Orchestra, Bev Bevan.

What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? A multi-vendor event hosted by C2K where a couple of pigeons decided to artistically put a new designer splat on my jacket just as we were due to board a boat. However, it proved good enough for me to win the best of the days prizes.

Has 2009 been as bad as everyone said it would be? It has been a busy year for us. Fortunately we have invested in automating the supply chain process since 2001 and we have been focused on lowering the cost of the transaction as margins have become more challenging. Having a proactive and a positive approach linked with solid foundations is most definitely the way forward.

Have any of your predictions come true this year? Yes. Data quality and value added service is king!

What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2010? I think the channel's biggest challenge in 2010 is "The Channel". How it evolves and streamlines itself with data efficiencies and how the supply chain is truly adding value will be key.

What is the best part of your day? I enjoy every day with the challenges it brings and the execution of them.
