Chief executive, Circle IT
What is your greatest career move to date?
Getting a job as an admin clerk. Going from being a milkman to that was awesome.
What is top of your bucket list?
Winning the Dell Management Challenge. We got third place this year which I was delighted with but we'll keep trying.
What has changed most since you started working in the channel?
The explosion of mobility and BYOD. The ability to get easy, secure access to the information you need, when and where you need it presents such an opportunity for companies working in the channel.
How do you think Brexit is going to affect the channel?
Personally I don't see it having a massive impact. There were a few scares when it was announced but since then very little. It's like anything: you just have to adapt and roll with it.
What is your least favourite task during the working day?
Getting up. I'm usually in the office for 6am or on the road, but I'm a bad sleeper so always tired.
If you were an animal, what would you be?
A giraffe. I've always wanted to be taller.
If you won the big one on EuroMillions, what would you do?
Invest in the business and grow it rapidly - after I'd spent four years on holiday with the family. And get my legs straightened - they are not good.
What is your worst habit?
Swearing. It's because I'm from a farming background, so my first language was swearing. My da taught me well! So long as my kids don't pick it up.
How has 2016 been for you?
It has been OK. We grew the business a decent amount but it hasn't been great on profit. Roll on next year.
If you didn't work in the IT channel, what would be your dream career?
Something in fitness so I could mess about in the gym all day rather than try and squeeze sessions in like I do now. I love training but have so many injuries from my rugby days it hurts all the time.
What major issues will the channel face in 2017?
Diversification is always, and continues to be, the biggest challenge as far as I'm concerned. As a business you need to continually evolve.
