Tell us something most people won't know about you

I don't drink caffeine.

What has been your highlight of 2018 so far?

Our kick-off in June was amazing. I felt like we really delivered on our commitment to the team and raised the bar on how we focus on empowering success.

Who would play you in the film of your life?

I'd like it to be Steve McQueen, although it would most likely be someone less cool.

Which tech firm (other than your own!) do you most admire?

Microsoft for the transition it has made under the current leader and CEO. Satya Nadella has shown that regardless of size any organisation can re-invent itself for the greater good. Both for the people within and the people and organisations the company serves.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

I need two. Fish (haddock) and chips from a little village (Wetwang) in Yorkshire, closely followed by chicken and spinach madras from Akbar's in Bradford. You have to try them!

What is the most irritating tech buzzphrase of 2018?

I can honestly say I haven't been irritated by any this year. I only get irritated when the ‘buzzphrase' hype doesn't reflect the business opportunity I see at that stage. Thankfully we are enjoying digitisation/digital transformation as a consumer and provider of business technology this year.

What would be your first act if you were made Prime Minister?

Significantly increase the government investment for industry learning and skill development.

What's the biggest untapped opportunity facing the channel?

People. People will always hold the greatest potential and opportunity when given the correct focus and investment.

What is your most treasured possession?

My dad died when I was young. Beyond some truly amazing memories, he left me with some of his close personal possessions and a book. These are more valuable to me than any material possession could ever be.

What do your family think you do all day?

No matter how many times I explain it, my children always ask: "Dad, what do you actually do?" My wife lovingly enjoys telling the kids in good jest that "dad's going on holiday again" whenever we run through my diary.

Who has been your mentor in business?

I'm really lucky to have had amazing mentorship (not always formal) from both past and present employers, peers, employees, suppliers, partners, customers and even competitors. I'm very much a learn-it-all and these people have put up with my endless questions, made time to bounce ideas around with me, and imparted great wisdom that I cherish and put into action.
