Career outline I joined BAT on a YTS scheme, fell into the IT dept and three years later moved to BDO in the city and then onto Basilica 13 years ago, where I have been a pre-sales consultant, marketing manager, R&D manager, services director and managing director for five years.

What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? The buzz of a deal.

What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? Self-heating coffee.

What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Image and print. Even though the growth is huge, the true understanding in the market has hardly scraped the surface and is generally ignored.

Which technology would you most like to have invented? The internet.

Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? No regrets, just lessons learned.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Overcoming perception of age verses ability in the early days, but more recently learning to let go.

What is the biggest success of your career? Leading the management buy-out of Basilica four years ago and doubling the size of the business since.

What piece of technology could you not live without? My mobile phone.

What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Forget the technology and focus on the business issues.

What would you like for Christmas if you could have anything? A endless outsource contract with all the FTSE 100 companies.
