Career outline: Following my first job, I spent nine years in a business-to-business PR and marketing consultancy before joining Kyocera in 1993 as PR manager.

What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? The desire to make a difference.

What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? Almost anything to do with mobile handsets.

What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Five years is a long time in this industry.

Which technology would you most like to have invented? The PDA. I couldn’t live without mine.

Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? I never regret anything.

If you could swap places with anyone in the industry, who would it be? If I have to stay in the industry, my place is just fine. I’d love to change places with anybody who makes travel documentaries for a living, though.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? None stand out.

What is the biggest success of your career? Securing the club sponsorship of Reading FC in the season they got promoted to the Premiership has to be a highlight.

What piece of technology could you not live without? That will be my trusty PDA again.

What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Stick with the mainstream technologies, the innovators look glamorous and interesting, but ubiquity always wins out.

What is your favorite computer game? Toontown. I play it with my six-year-old son, Alex.

What would you like for Christmas if you could have anything? George Bush’s resignation.

What is your favorite karaoke song? Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, from Evita.

What would be the title of your autobiography? What A Life.

Do you have any phobias? Yes. Flying terrifies me, but I’ve learned to live with it.
