Career highlights: Upon graduating, I joined Marley on a graduate training scheme, and qualified as ACMA. Had two years at Hurst Publishing, best known for the Auto Trader title, before joining Elcom Group. The five years with Elcom involved a number of acquisitions, and when the business was eventually sold I was finance and systems director. I joined Maverick Presentation Products as financial director, became deputy managing director and then transferred to a new business and became managing director of ProInstall, now the largest trade-only audiovisual [AV] installation company in the UK.
What do you love most about the IT industry? The speed of change and the willingness of those in it to adopt change.
Which company do you most admire or respect in the IT business? Elcom.
Which individual do you most admire or respect in the IT business? Steve Jobs [of Apple].
What is the biggest technology trend you anticipate in the next 12 months? High-definition broadcasts becoming mainstream.
What is the one thing working in the technology industry has taught you? Working hard is more likely than not in this industry.
Where do you think the channel will be in five years time? The big players will be big, there will be more specialists and small broadliners will be squeezed out. Also a great deal more business will be web based.
Which do you think is the most influential vendor in the UK? In AV terms, Epson. However, I think convergence of technology will see Microsoft become a big player in the AV market.
Which vendor's technology do you think has changed the face of IT? Cisco.
How do you unwind or spend your spare time? Playing with my kids, watching the odd DVD and sorting out the garden.
Where is your favourite place to eat? L'Ortolan in Reading.
What is your favourite drink? Whiskey sour.
What is your favourite TV programme or film? The Godfather.
Who is your favourite musician, band, artist or genre? 80s music I'm afraid.
What is your favourite book? The Da Vinci Code was the last good one.
What career would you have pursued if you hadn't worked in the channel? Catering or education, although only with hindsight.
What has been your greatest business achievement? Establishing ProInstall as a brand in the UK.
What is your personal ambition? To make ProInstall really successful, and to have fun with my family along the way. Failing that I guess it will the chef thing.
