Career outline I have been in the IT industry for 22 years, starting life with a vendor of modems when modems were the size of a house.
What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? I still find the IT channel very exciting, especially the area in which we operate.
What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? That’s a really tough question, I can only think of Apple and the iPod.
What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? As I am in the area of mobile computing, I would say High-Speed Downlink Packet Access.
Which technology would you most like to have invented? The first mobile phone.
Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? No.
If you could swap places with anyone in the industry, who would it be? Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, because that would have to be a very interesting insight into how to build and rebuild a business.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Probably the management buy-out of Portable.
What is the biggest success of your career? The management buy-out of Portable again and surviving the tough times to get to where we are.
What piece of technology could you not live without? My mobile phone/PDA.
What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Make sure you keep up to date with your specific technology area because it still moves at such a rapid pace.
What would you like for Christmas if you could have anything? More quality time with my family.
