Eggleston, KAy

A-LIST 2005

Company: NOXS UK.

Job title: Managing director.

Place of birth: Woking, Surrey.

Year of birth: 1967.

Marital status: Co-habiting.

Career highlights: Started at Integralis in 1994 as facilities manager and moved into sales in Activis, Integralis's quality of service division. After 18 months Activis was merged with Allasso and thereafter I have pursued my career in distribution, from sales to product management and finally business development management. In 2003 I was head-hunted by Risc Technology to set up its new UK distribution subsidiary, which has since been rebranded as NOXS Security as a result of a European merger in 2004. I have successfully grown this business over the past two years into a thriving distribution business which is now viewed by the channel as a key supplier in the UK security market.

What do you love most about the IT industry? The opportunity it has given me to run a company, and the fun to be had in networking.

Which company do you most admire or respect in the IT business? All of our loyal customers.

Which individual do you most admire or respect in the IT business? My team who have helped me realise the dream of building a successful company.

What is the biggest technology trend you anticipate in the next 12 months? I forecast an increase in mobility-related solutions and secure vaulting technologies that address the need to protect information while enabling secure sharing over the internet.

What is the one thing working in the technology industry has taught you? If you work hard, the sky is the limit, and the holidays just get better and better.

Where do you think the channel will be in five years time? The channel in the UK is a mature one and on the whole, works pretty well the way it is. I do not think there will be much difference fundamentally in five years' time. I do believe, however, that there are a huge number of companies with too much crossover, and it is inevitable that at the some point there will be further consolidation.

Which do you think is the most influential ISV in the UK? Check Point.

How do you unwind or spend your spare time? I enjoy socialising with friends, and the occasional round of golf (fair weather only). As I don't have much spare time most of the year, my passion is saving up all my holidays for exotic trips abroad.

Where is your favourite place to eat? Thailand.

What is your favourite drink? Champagne at home and Stella Artois in the pub.

What is your favourite TV programme or film? Angel Heart.

Who is your favourite musician, band, artist or genre? I like most mainstream music.

What is your favourite book? Again, I could pick a top 20, but not an absolute favourite.

What career would you have pursued if you hadn't worked in the channel? Who knows? I fell into IT by accident like a lot of people, and would now find it difficult to work in any other industry. But if I win the lottery, I will travel the world in preference.

What has been your greatest business achievement? Setting up NOXS Security from scratch with no former experience of running a company, and growing it into the sound business that it is today.

What is your personal ambition? To visit every country in the world in style.
