Bloom set to leave Symantec
After 25 years in the industry, former Vertias head 'takes a break' from the industry
Security and storage software vendor Symantec has announced that its president Gary Bloom is to step down in March.
Symantec, which merged with storage software vendor Veritas for $13.5bn in 2004 (CRN 20 December), claimed Bloom would leave Symantec following an orderly transition before the end of March. Bloom will also resign from his position as vice chairman of the board of directors.
"The strength of the management team at Symantec gives me comfort in deciding to use this transition to take a break after almost 25 years in the high technology industry," said Bloom.
John Thompson, Symantec chief executive officer, added: "I still firmly believe in the strategic rationale for bringing Symantec and Veritas together. Gary has been a terrific partner in the merger and with the integration of the teams complete; this is a natural time for this transition.
CRN understands that Bloom's current role as president will not be filled straight away and that the lines of business currently reporting to Bloom will report directly to Thompson instead.
