Ipswitch makes a connection
Firm secures deal with software company Wavelink
A deal between network monitoring firm Ipswitch and mobile infrastructure management software company Wavelink has been welcomed by the channel.
The alliance will see Ipswitch's WhatsUp wired infrastructure network management tool integrated with Wavelink Mobile Manager to create a monitoring system that works across both wired and unwired networks.
Ipswitch's UK distributor Unipalm claimed there is "no downside" to the deal.
"This is good news for the channel. WhatsUp is a good product that has played well in the small business marketplace. It is a good to see Ipswitch planning to move it up," Russell Zientek, Unipalm's director of e-business, told CRN.
"Wireless networking is increasing in popularity. This deal provides additional support for wireless network and management and security. We have been talking to Wavelink, but there is nothing official yet."
A Mobile Manager plug-in, similar to a plug-in for Hewlett-Packard OpenView, will allow the monitoring tool to relay wireless network performance and status data to Ipswitch WhatsUp products, which measure service availability and performance of wired components.
