SDL phones home for affordable video calls
A system which will bring affordable video conferencing into the home is being exclusively distributed by SDL.
The V-Com Tecnoplus PC Video Conferencing kit, designed by Cybertec, retails at u199 (inc VAT) if purchasers use their own camera, and u299 for the complete kit.
"Just imagine being able to talk face to face with Granny in Australia when she hasn't been over for a few years and the potential for new-born babies is amazing," said SDL's John Arundel.
A report compiled by Forward Concepts Electronic Market research in December 1995 predicted that although the internet will become the main backbone for many video communicators, the users of ordinary telephone systems will dominate the market over the coming years.
"We are delighted that such a well-known and dynamic company as SDL has agreed to distribute our products," said Ian Mitchell, Cybertec's chief executive. David Gosling, chief executive at SDL, said: " Both home and business users will benfit from this low cost plug & play system which enables international video phone calls to be made via the internet for the cost of a local call."
