Sony is hand in hand with Palm
Sony has unveiled its own handheld based on the Palm operating system.
Sony has unveiled its own hand-held based on the Palm operating system. The device offers a small, lightweight footprint that features the ability to play back video, view still pictures and connect to the internet via a cellular phone.
Sony has been working with Palm since last year to create its own spin on the handheld device which uses gMedia software to support digital camera files, AVI, Mpeg-1 and QuickTime. The Sony Palm has a playback speed of four to 10 frames per second on the standard Dragonball EZ CPU, running 20MHz with 8Mb of DRam. It comes standard with 4Mb of embedded Flash memory and an 8Mb Memory Stick.
To curb power consumption, the device uses reflected light in bright conditions and a backlight when it gets dim.
Scheduled for release in Japan on 9 September, the colour-screen version will retail for $560 (£375) and the monochrome version for $514. UK release dates have yet to be announced.
