Insignia gets slice of Apple pie

A deal between Apple and Insignia Solutions, bundling Windows emulator Soft Windows with the 7600 and 8200 Power Macs, will reaffirm Apple?s commitment to its smaller resellers after the shockwaves generated by the Next announcement. The deal puts Insignia in a good position to bridge the gap between the Macintosh and Next operating systems. Insignia European marketing manager David Angwin said: ?We can?t talk about it at the moment, but if there was a need for a backwards compatibility system, Insignia are very well placed to provide the market with that solution. ?We?ve had a version of our software running Next Step (the operating system on which Apple?s new Rhapsody OS will be based) on Intel and Power PC platforms.? The distribution arrangement, which will result in Apple shipping more than 5,000 units of Soft Windows in the next eight weeks, is being advertised in the national daily IT supplements throughout January. The bundling deal is available to all Apple resellers. The company will issue participating resellers with vouchers entitling customers to a copy of Soft Windows 3.
